Built for MADE Australia 2024 we’ve taken a current production bike, busted it out of its cardboard box and reimagined it after a touch of head scratching.
Seat stay and chain stay braces were cut out. The rear wheel spacing was adjusted to 135mm and new braces were tig welded back in. A laser cut disc tab was added to the back of the bike. At the front end, the fork received a hand cut disc tab that spans further along the fork blade. A truss was bent up and tiged on and a closed washer was added to the drop out to eliminate the chance of a front wheel ejection under extremely heavy braking. The frame was blasted and had a patina applied to darken the steel and our friend Cam hand painted a couple of logos.
Nb. if you were at the show and happened to touch the frame, you’re now part of its “paint” scheme! Your fingerprints have been sealed in.
This build celebrates a lot of what we all love about bikes! The people and the place are what can really make a great ride stand out. It’s hard to beat the feeling of speed a modern road or gravel bike can offer but cast your mind back to when you learnt to ride…
Times were simpler, not to mention bikes certainly were.
Having fun was prioritised over going fast.
With a nod to the history of the first mountain bikes alongside the birth of the modern cycling industry, we put this build together to celebrate simplicity, fun and as a mirror to review where we’re at in the modern cycling industry.
